Kelly and Julie Ludwick Use Bequest to Help EKU Score Future Success

Kelly and Charlie Ludwick

The crack of the bat and the roar of the crowd were part of the EKU experience for Kelly and Julie Ludwick through their son, Eastern Kentucky baseball standout Charlie Ludwick. A starting infielder all four years at EKU, Charlie benefited tremendously by attending EKU. And now Kelly and Julie want to make sure future students get the same opportunities.

To help their son’s alma mater, Kelly and Julie have made the University part of their estate plan through a bequest in their will. This, in addition to their annual giving, not only says “thank you” for Charlie’s outstanding experiences but lays the groundwork for EKU’s future excellence.

“We have been blessed with good fortune in our careers and otherwise,” Kelly says. “Giving in general and giving back to people and institutions who have supported us is part of our faith and what our family aspires to be about.”

Now operating his own solo law practice after retiring from a 30+ year career at national law firms and as in-house counsel for Chick-fil-A, Inc., Kelly says a bequest is an ideal and easy way to establish a legacy at EKU. A gift that costs nothing now, a bequest allows Kelly and Julie to safeguard their current well-being while knowing they will be helping the University in the future.

“To us, a bequest is an additional way to give not a substitute for other giving,” Kelly says. “We want to stay as connected as possible and support EKU out of gratitude for the positive influence EKU has had on Charlie and our family.”
