Sue Dane, ’75, Shares the Power of Higher Education Through a Bequest in Her Will

Susan Dane, ’75Susan Dane, ’75, and her husband Richard believe strongly in the power of education to transform lives. That’s why they have supported EKU and have established a bequest in their wills to help students benefit from the Eastern Kentucky University experience far into the future.

The skills and knowledge Sue gained as a nursing major launched her on a successful career with many life-enriching experiences. Her gift in support of the School of Nursing will give future students those same opportunities.

Spending part of their careers outside of the United States, Sue and Richard witnessed firsthand the tremendous importance an education can have on someone’s life. Not everyone can afford an education, Sue notes, which is why she and Richard feel so strongly about supporting EKU through annual gifts and their bequest.

“Education is our focus when we consider philanthropic giving,” Sue says. “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day,” Sue says quoting a well-known proverb. “Teach him to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

Now retired, Sue is a longtime member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society of nursing. She was inspired to support EKU’s School of Nursing after her father-in-law created a similar gift at his alma mater.

Sue hopes fellow alumni will consider making a planned gift. Including Eastern Kentucky University in your will is easy and will enable you to know you are helping future students achieve their dreams, she says.
